As of 2016, 30% of Mexican families still lack access to piped water inside their houses, 23% lack the service of waste disposal, and 16% still depend on firewood or coal for cooking, exerting adverse effects on their well-being, health,  education, etc. The categorical nature of such variables related to adequate housing makes difficult using them for normative comparisons. The recent H+ dominance criterion (Gravel, Magdalou and Moyes, 2015) compares distributions of ordinal data by virtue of their differences in both efficiency and equality improvements. In this paper, we rank the the 32 Mexican states, using data from 1984 to 2016, according to the H+ dominance criterion for access to adequate housing.  Our preliminary results show which states are better at «reducing the gap» in terms of adequate housing, and the improvements achieved in the 32 year period. We also decompose the sources of such differences and discuss the implications.
