Le Prix Louis André-Gérard Varet* pour le meilleur article de jeune chercheur a été décerné ce jour à Daniele D'arienzo, Maître de conférence à la Nova School of Business and Economics, lors de la conférence ASSET 2021 qui s’est tenue du 20 au 22 octobre 2021.
Papier : "Learning, Over-reaction and the Wisdom of the Crowd"
Résumé : How do departures of individual beliefs from Bayesian rationality impact welfare and informational efficiency in financial markets? We allow agents posterior beliefs to depart from the rational expectations hypothesis and to over/under-react to news (i.e. to changes in fundamentals and/or prices). We find that both in a financial market with sequential trading and unit demand and supply, as well as in a financial market with simultaneous trading, with volume and unbounded signals, over-reaction has a positive informational externality, while under-reaction exacerbates any informational friction. Over-reaction mitigates individual losses due non-Bayesian beliefs. Because agents over-react to news, prices aggregate more efficiently private information, relative to the rational case. As a consequence, over-reaction decreases the likelihood of informational cascades, increases the informational content of prices, and it increases welfare.

* Le Prix en mémoire au premier Président élu de l’ASSET, Louis-André Gérard Varet, décédé en Janvier 2001. Louis-André Gérard-Varet a été Directeur d’Études à l’EHESS et directeur au GREQAM à Marseille. Il a été Président de l’ASSET de 1990 à 1997 et président de 1997 à 1999. L’ASSET décerne le Prix LAGV chaque année à un jeune auteur (soit un étudiant récemment diplômé ou à un doctorant, dans les deux ans de sa diplomation) d’un article remarquable désigné par le comité parmi tous les papiers soumis à l’ASSET, pour sa rencontre annuelle. Le gagnant du Prix assiste au meeting annuel et, dans le cas où il y a des co-auteurs, tous doivent être individuellement éligible.
