Résumé

The benefit from a public good can often be uncertain, and subject to risk. Moreover, the level of risk faced may vary from one individual to another. This paper proposes to use data from a lab experiment to investigate how changing the levels of risk concerning the benefit from the public good (heterogeneously across subjects) affects contributions. Using data from a laboratory experiment, I look at how exogenously changing the levels of environmental risk faced by agents affects their contributions, in a situation when the levels of risk about the benefit from the public good are heterogeneous. Preliminary results show that contributions under uncertainty are always lower than contributions under certainty. Individual contributions increase when their risk decreases. Reducing the heterogeneity in the risk among individuals may increase the sum of contributions to the public good.
