Dr. Yulin Hswen recently received her Doctoral degree at Harvard University in the area of social and computational epidemiology. Her research focuses on leveraging online big data, from search queries to social networks to understand population health trends. Her presentation will discuss how to use machine learning algorithms to identify patient experiences, sentiment, and behaviors. The concept of digital phenotyping will be reviewed and examples of how data captured by digital devices can be used to predict disease epidemics and environmental hazards earlier than traditional sources will be explored.
