Since January 2025, Aix-Marseille School of Economics has been coordinating an International Research Network (IRN), selected and funded by the CNRS, for a duration of five years (2025–2029). This network, labeled IRN E3E, focuses on developing a “unified ecological-epidemiological-economic framework to quantify the impact of emerging pathogens and subsequent public policy response.” This network is primarily designed as an initiative to consolidate and strengthen a network of researchers from three disciplines (economics, ecology, and mathematics), some of whom have collaborated for over 20 years. Their most recent shared research focus (the core objective of IRN E3E) is the design of conceptual and operational frameworks for controlling emerging and re-emerging epidemics.
In addition to AMSE, the network includes the following institutions:
- For the USA, the department of ecology and evolutionary biology at Princeton University, the departments of biology and environmental studies at New York University, and the department of economics at Rice University;
- for Italy, the departments of economics of the University of Bocconi and Luiss Guido Carli University of Rome;
- and for France, the Center for Research in Eocnomics and Management of Rennes University.
The network will hold its first symposium in Marseille from June 4-7, 2025. An open workshop for the entire academic community will take place on June 5 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM at AMSE (Marseille), featuring participation from ecologists Andy Dobson (Princeton) and Mercedes Pascual (New York Unviersity), from economists Ted Loch-Temzelides (Rice) and Josselin Thuilliez (CREM, Rennes), and mathematicians Fausto Gozzi (LUISS, Rome) and Salvatore Federico (University of Bologna).
The workshop will be opened by Raouf Boucekkine (AMSE), coordinator of IRN E3E, with a brief presentation of the project's scientific foundations and objectives.
Registration is mandatory.
